The IAS–UM6P residency model is designed for people whose work benefits from uninterrupted time, dialogue across fields, and daily access to a serious research environment.
The Institute for Advanced Studies at UM6P offers scientific residencies that give researchers, thinkers, and creators the time and space to pursue ambitious interdisciplinary projects. Residents join a community built around conversation, long-form inquiry, and meaningful encounters between disciplines and geographies.
The expectation is simple: come to campus, work intensely, engage generously with the IAS community, and develop a project that contributes to ongoing intellectual, scientific, or artistic debates.
IAS–UM6P runs two annual sessions. Each follows a fixed application calendar, and applications submitted outside the official window are not reviewed.
Applications are assessed on the strength of the candidate, the coherence and originality of the project, and the fit with IAS research programs.
Each application moves through successive stages to ensure academic rigor, fairness, and alignment with the institute’s mission.
Applications are checked for eligibility and completeness, including the CV, research proposal, publications, and supporting materials.
Eligible applications are reviewed by external experts who assess originality, feasibility, methodological soundness, and relevance to IAS priorities.
Selected candidates receive an official acceptance letter together with practical information on housing, residency dates, and administrative next steps.

The residency package is designed to reduce friction, protect your time, and make serious work possible from day one.
Residents take part in seminars, colloquia, and the daily exchanges that come from living and working alongside scholars from multiple disciplines.
Residents are hosted in individual suites within shared villas on campus, creating both comfort and opportunities for conversation.
International residents receive a travel stipend so geography does not become a barrier to participation.
Residents benefit from laboratories, libraries, offices, and the broader research infrastructure of UM6P.
The residency is built around protected time for concentration, writing, experimentation, and project development.
Work across mathematics, life sciences, philosophy, social sciences, and the arts creates productive friction and fresh perspectives.
