Imergence: Raphaël Liogier on the Void, Aesthetics, and Breathing Beyond Models
Abstract
Liogier articulates his theory of ‘imergence’ — an inward creative tension that precedes and enables outward emergent phenomena. Drawing on process philosophy, Buddhist śūnyatā, and quantum mechanics, he proposes a tripartite epistemology integrating mathematical modelling, philosophical theory, and art. This interview, recorded following the 2025 Artificial Life Conference in Kyoto, introduces the framework to the interdisciplinary scientific community.
