3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence, and Fossils: A Revolution in Paleontological Studies

Yaagoubi, H. et al. — IAS-UM6P

Abstract

AI-powered segmentation of CT-scan data enables faithful 3D reconstruction of complex fossil morphologies, and FDM-printed replicas allow palaeontologists to analyse and exhibit specimens without risk to irreplaceable originals. Given Morocco’s exceptional fossil heritage — its Cambrian and Cretaceous deposits rank among the world’s richest — this methodology carries direct national significance for scientific research and cultural heritage preservation.
