Biography

Miles Larmer is Director of the University of Florida’s Center for African Studies and Professor of History. His research focuses on the history of central and southern Africa in the mid-to-late twentieth century, with works on labour history, nationalism, military and social conflict, the history of political ideas, populism and environmental history.

His most recent book is Living for the City: Social Change and Knowledge Production in the Central African Copperbelt, published by Cambridge University Press in 2021. His current research focuses on new lithium mining in Ghana, examining whether global demand for transition minerals is creating opportunities for Africa to add value to mineral production and better protect affected communities and the environment.
