Unravelling Emotional Dynamics in Violent Extremism: Injustice, Loyalty and Solidarity in (Dis)engagement Trajectories

Abstract

Drawing on data from the ANR-TROC and BELSPO-REGUIDE longitudinal research projects, this article analyses three psychosocial emotions — injustice, loyalty, and solidarity — as structural forces across radicalisation and de-radicalisation trajectories. The findings advocate for long-term counter-terrorism policies addressing emotional complexity, offering direct policy-relevant insights for European de-radicalisation frameworks.
