About this Event

On May 15, 2025, the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) at UM6P hosted the third seminar of the Chair of Transitions Conference Series at the Laayoune Room, Ryad Center. The session welcomed researchers, students, and science enthusiasts for a journey through the evolving frontiers of our understanding of the universe.

The seminar was delivered by Dr. Youssef Moulane, Research Scientist at the School of Applied and Engineering Physics at UM6P, who offered a compelling exploration of the major paradigm shifts that have shaped modern astronomy and space science.

Tracing a historical arc from the Copernican Revolution—which displaced Earth from the center of the cosmos—to today’s cutting-edge discoveries, Dr. Moulane highlighted how each scientific breakthrough has fundamentally transformed our perception of the universe and our place within it. The talk emphasized the cumulative nature of scientific progress, where each shift opens new questions as much as it provides answers.

Particular attention was given to recent advancements, including the discovery of exoplanets, the study of extremophilesthat expand the boundaries of life as we know it, and the role of next-generation observational tools such as the James Webb Space Telescope. These developments not only deepen our understanding of cosmic structures but also challenge long-held assumptions about habitability, life, and the origins of the universe.

Beyond the scientific narrative, the seminar invited reflection on the broader implications of these discoveries—how they reshape philosophical perspectives, inspire technological innovation, and influence the way humanity conceptualizes its future.

The session concluded with an engaging discussion with participants, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in addressing fundamental questions that lie at the intersection of science, philosophy, and society.

Through this third seminar, the Chair of Transitions continues to foster critical inquiry into the transformative ideas that redefine knowledge across disciplines, reaffirming IAS’s role as a space for intellectual exploration and forward-looking dialogue.
