The Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) – UM6P hosted a seminar by Dr. Teresa M. Cappiali devoted to Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP)—an innovative, evidence-driven approach that reimagines education as a learner-centered and deeply humanizing experience.

Held at Salle Laâyoune on the UM6P Campus Benguerir, the session presented TEP as both a philosophy and a method. Drawing on her recent book and her residency at the IAS, Dr. Cappiali outlined how TEP moves beyond lecture-centric formats in favor of experiential and interactive practices, including dialogue circles, role play, collaborative projects, and puzzle-based learning. These interconnected learning journeys position students as active participants while reaffirming the essential role of teachers as guides and learning designers.

The seminar also shared early insights from ongoing work with an internal UM6P department, highlighting how TEP is moving from contextualization toward pilot studies within the UM6P ecosystem. Discussions addressed the framework’s potential contribution to inclusive, decolonial, and humanistic models of education, as well as its adaptability across disciplines.

The session sparked lively exchanges on pedagogical goals, theoretical foundations, and classroom practice. Dr. Cappiali also highlighted emerging international collaborations shaping comparative pilots, including partnerships with institutions in Cambridge, Cork, and Mexico. Together, these initiatives point to new pathways for pedagogical innovation at UM6P and beyond, reinforcing the IAS’s commitment to advancing reflective and transformative approaches to teaching and learning.
