As part of the activities of the Chaire des Transitions, the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) – UM6P hosted a seminar entitled The Noosphere: Mapping the Planetary Mind at Salle Laâyoune, Riad Center.
Structured as a presentation followed by an open discussion, the seminar was delivered by Marouane Jaouat, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chaire des Transitions. Drawing on the book Planetary Mind: A Cartography of the Noosphere, the session explored the concept of the noosphere as an emerging planetary layer of human experience shaped by collective thought, narratives, symbols, technologies, and shared imaginaries.
The seminar proposed a contemporary reading of the noosphere as a living field of resonance—where technological, ecological, cultural, and spiritual transitions intersect. Discussions highlighted how ongoing transformations are contributing to the formation of a planetary mental environment marked by hyper-connectivity, but also by fragmentation, cognitive fatigue, and a growing search for meaning.
Particular attention was given to the role of digital infrastructures, social networks, and artificial intelligence—not merely as neutral tools, but as active forces shaping collective perception, values, and modes of cooperation. These dynamics raise critical questions of responsibility in the construction of a shared planetary mental ecology.
This seminar offered a rich and timely space for reflection on the challenges of planetary interdependence and the evolving relationships between mind, technology, and society, reaffirming the Chaire des Transitions’ commitment to interdisciplinary dialogue on global transformations.
