As his residency at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) draws to a close, Dr. Wale Okediran—renowned Nigerian author, physician, and cultural leader—will deliver a final public lecture reflecting on the intersections between literature, medicine, and politics. Titled “Story, Science & Society: The Tripod of Literature, Medicine & Politics,”this event marks the culmination of a richly interdisciplinary journey.
A Unique Residency
During his time at IAS, Dr. Okediran has explored how literature can serve as a powerful medium for humanizing medicine, building empathy among healthcare practitioners, and engaging critically with political and social realities. With a background in both clinical medicine and literary fiction, he brings a rare and compelling perspective to the role of narrative in shaping society.
Final Reflections & Public Presentation
The final conference will present key insights from Dr. Okediran’s residency project, as well as stories and reflections from his international engagements—ranging from literary festivals in Nigeria and the UK to sustainability field visits in Morocco. These experiences have enriched his work and deepened the global dimension of his approach.
Spotlight on Student Voices
One of the highlights of Dr. Okediran’s residency has been the Travel Writing Workshop, an initiative that invited students to write about their personal journeys and cultural encounters. As part of the final conference, a preview of the upcoming student anthology will be presented—offering a platform for young voices and a celebration of creative expression across borders.
