The Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) – UM6P officially launched its new weekly seminar series, Les Mercredis de l’IAS, with an inaugural conference delivered by Driss Alaoui M’Daghri, IAS resident, former minister, writer, and engaged public intellectual.
Entitled Homo Politicus: The Political Actor Seen by a Participating Observer, the seminar offered a rare and insightful exploration of political life in Morocco. Drawing on his personal experience as a government minister and his long-standing intellectual engagement, Driss Alaoui M’Daghri provided a nuanced reflection on the exercise of power, public commitment, and the inner workings of political decision-making.
Serving in several ministerial roles between 1992 and 1998—covering Energy, Youth, and Communication—Driss Alaoui M’Daghri combined firsthand testimony with critical analysis, inviting the audience to rethink the figure of the political actor beyond institutional roles and public discourse.
Held at Salle Laâyoune on the UM6P Campus Benguerir, the seminar sparked rich discussions and marked a strong opening for a season dedicated to interdisciplinary dialogue at the IAS.
The Institute extends its sincere thanks to all participants who contributed to making this inaugural session a stimulating moment of exchange. This first seminar set the tone for a vibrant series of weekly intellectual encounters at the crossroads of social sciences, humanities, and public life.
