On Tuesday, January 27, the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) UM6P, through its Chair of Transitions, in partnership with the Learning Center UM6P, hosted the presentation of the book Between Two Shores. Morocco–Belgium, Parallel Histories, Intertwined Destinies at the Learning Center – Showroom EMINES, on the campus of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguerir.
The event took place in the presence of the author, Hassan Bousetta, Associate Professor at the University of Liège (Belgium). His work offers a nuanced and original reading of the historical relationships between Morocco and Belgium, moving beyond conventional national histories or migration-centered narratives.
Between Two Shores invites readers on a journey across time and space, linking the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean. By bringing together selected historical episodes and long-term perspectives with more recent developments, the book sheds light on the complex political, social, and human dynamics that have shaped Moroccan–Belgian relations. Its accessible yet rigorous approach makes it a valuable contribution for both academic audiences and the wider public.
The presentation was followed by a discussion with Montassir Sakhi, Assistant Professor at the Chair of Transitions (UM6P). The exchange provided an opportunity to deepen the reflection on shared histories, cultural circulations, and intertwined destinies, while highlighting the importance of comparative and interdisciplinary approaches in understanding contemporary societies.
The discussions with the audience were marked by their richness and engagement, illustrating the relevance of historical dialogue in addressing present-day questions related to identity, mobility, and transnational connections. This event also reaffirmed the role of the IAS UM6P and the Learning Center UM6P as key platforms for intellectual exchange and the dissemination of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences.
Through initiatives such as this book presentation, the IAS UM6P continues to foster critical debate and academic dialogue, contributing to a deeper understanding of global and regional transformations.
