Synthesis, Innovation & Advanced Functional Materials

The Chemistry and Materials Science program focuses on the synthesis of functional molecules and nanomaterials with potential applications in advanced technologies. Areas of interest include molecular and nanomachines, sensors, bio-chemical ligands, water splitting and hydrogen production, photocatalysis, photonics, and plasmonics.

Researchers at IAS are encouraged to pursue discovery-driven science with an eye toward applicability. Morocco's strategic position in the global phosphate economy gives UM6P a particular interest in sustainable chemistry, green energy, and resource-efficient materials.

The program fosters close ties between chemists, physicists, and biologists within IAS, enabling a rich exchange that accelerates discovery at disciplinary boundaries — particularly in energy materials, functional coatings, and bio-inspired chemistry.
