Identity, Belonging & Social Transformation
Human identities, both individual and collective, serve as the narrative framework through which individuals envision an ideal life. Rather than discussing themselves in abstract terms, humans articulate their identities within specific contexts shaped by social, urban, architectural, cultural, tribal, and religious affiliations — and these structures appear to be undergoing a period of profound transition.
These transitions are multifaceted, influenced by factors such as environmental changes, prompting some communities to embrace new lifestyles while others resist transformation. This dynamic gives rise to novel forms of local, regional, and urban solidarity, alongside new manifestations of exclusion and conflict.
IAS invites research that deepens our understanding of these processes across different cultural contexts — especially in Africa and the Arab world, where questions of modernity, tradition, and identity take on particular urgency and richness.
Join the IAS community and pursue your research in a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment at the heart of UM6P's campus in Ben Guerir, Morocco.
