The Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) at UM6P is pleased to host the fourth seminar of the Chair of Transitions, led by Professor Bruno Gérard, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) at UM6P.

This seminar will explore the notion of “wicked problems” in African agriculture—deep-rooted, multifaceted challenges that resist simple solutions. From climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation to food insecurity, demographic pressure, and market access, African agriculture faces a web of interconnected issues that demand collaborative, adaptive, and systems-oriented approaches.

Prof. Gérard will present key insights from ongoing research, including empirical data, policy analysis, and transdisciplinary methodologies. He will also discuss pathways to sustainable transitions in agri-food systems and the role of education, innovation, and system thinking in shaping the future of agriculture on the continent.

We warmly invite researchers, students, policy makers, and practitioners interested in agriculture, sustainability, and systemic transformation to join the discussion.

This seminar is part of the monthly event series organized by the Chair of Transitions at IAS-UM6P.
