The Institute for Advanced Studies at UM6P is proud to host an inaugural conference by Dr. Teresa M. Cappiali, current IAS Resident and internationally recognized scholar in the fields of pedagogy, human rights, and social innovation. Titled “Reimagining Education through TEP, AI and Social Innovation,” this public lecture marks a significant milestone in her 10-month fellowship at the university.

Dr. Cappiali will present her pioneering work on Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP) — a framework designed to promote inclusive, human-centered learning in complex and diverse educational settings. Drawing on insights from her forthcoming book Transformative-Emancipatory Pedagogy (TEP) to Reimagine Education: Teaching Controversies in Diverse Settings (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025), the talk will explore the philosophical and practical foundations of this model and its relevance in today’s global education landscape.

The second part of her presentation will turn to her ongoing research at UM6P, focused on adapting and expanding the TEP framework across North and Sub-Saharan Africa. Key areas of exploration include:

  • TEP and Artificial Intelligence: Early-stage pilot studies are being launched at UM6P to examine how AI technologies can complement the TEP model—particularly in fostering inclusion, ethical engagement, and critical thinking.

  • International Peace and Human Rights Education: Dr. Cappiali is initiating collaborations with educators in Colombia and beyond to adapt proven peace education practices to the Moroccan and African contexts. These partnerships aim to co-develop regionally grounded approaches to citizenship, peacebuilding, and inclusive education.

This research supports the broader development of NOIWE – No Innovation Without Education, a social innovation initiative founded by Dr. Cappiali to co-create transformative educational tools that are research-based, ethically grounded, and globally connected.

The conference will conclude with an open discussion on upcoming research directions, collaboration opportunities, and funding strategies to scale this work in the coming months.
