During his residency, Prof. Bu will focus on China’s Digital Presence in the MENA Region, examining how digital infrastructures and platforms exported through initiatives like the Digital Silk Road are reshaping governance frameworks in the Global South. His research explores the implications of cyber sovereignty, digital authoritarianism, and civil liberties, particularly in contexts where data privacy protections remain underdeveloped.
This timely and pressing project engages with the geopolitical dimensions of digital state capitalism and aims to contribute to a more inclusive and rights-respecting model of global data governance.
